I have missed posting a lot of trailers lately, so I am putting them all in a large post. I have included the release date, the synopsis, poster, and the cast if they are available. This has amounted to twenty trailers in one post. I think if you watch every single one, you should be pretty caught up on the trailers that were released in the past couple of months. Some of these trailers are from independent films that you may never heard of. If some of these trailers do not work, please let me know so that I can update them Enjoy!
A movie about LARPing? Why yes, yes it is. The Knights of Badassdom (awesome title) stars Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn, Summer Glau, Peter Dinklage, Danny Pudi, Margarita Levieva, Jimmi Simpson, Danny Pudi, Brett Gipson, and Michael Gladis.
“Live Action Role Players must become the heroes they’ve been pretending to be when they accidentally summon a demonic force for real.”
There is no release date yet for The Knights of Badassdom.
Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life is a French movie about Serge Gainsbourg who was a famous singer/songwriter in France. While it is a foreign film, the trailer is fantastic. The film stars Eric Elmosnino, Lucy Gordon, Laetitia Casta (yes, the Victoria Secret model), Doug Jones, and Sara Forestier.
“Taking the best from LA VIE EN ROSE and AMÉLIE, renowned comic book artist Joann Sfar’s GAINSBOURG: A HEROIC LIFE is a completely original take on one of France’s greatest mavericks, the illustrious and infamous Jewish singer-songwriter, Serge Gainsbourg (Eric Elmosnino). Born Lucien Ginsburg to Russian-Jewish parents, Sfar follows him from his precocious childhood in Nazi-occupied Paris, to his beginnings as small time jazz musician and finally pop superstar. Along the way he romances many of the era’s most beautiful women, including Juliette Greco (Anna Mouglalis), Brigitte Bardot (Laetitia Casta) and Jane Birkin (Lucy Gordon). Employing a witty surrealistic style and a soundtrack that includes many of the musician’s greatest hits, GAINSBOURG: A HEROIC LIFE is a quintessential time capsule to ‘60’s Paris.”
Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life is in theatres August 31, 2011.
There were three teaser trailers for The Muppets, and the final full trailer does not let us Muppet fans down. I am excited that a whole new generation of little kids will get to experience a Muppet movie. The non-Muppet cast includes Jason Segel, Amy Adams, and Chris Cooper along with some cameos from other actors.
“When Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater, they help Kermit reunite the Muppets to stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater.”
The Muppets is in theatres November 23, 2011.
Brighton Rock is an English mystery/thriller based on the novel by Graham Greene. It stars Sam Riley, Andrea Riseborough, Helen Mirren, Andy Serkis, and John Hurt. The film takes place in the 1960’s, but the novel was published in 1938.
“Based on Graham Greene’s chilling 1938 novel, BRIGHTON ROCK is the hard-boiled, visually captivating debut film of Rowan Joffe. An official selection of the Toronto International Film Festival, the film features an incredible cast of both British acting royalty and brilliant newcomers. Sam Riley (CONTROL) is the young anti-hero Pinkie, a cunning charmer trying to make his mark on the vicious gangland of Brighton. When a young waitress (Andrea Riseborough, who was nominated for 2 BIFAs for her breakthrough performance) stumbles on evidence that links Pinkie and his gang to a revenge killing, he draws her into a conned romance to keep the loose end tied up. When Rose’s world-weary boss (Oscar-winner Helen Mirren) becomes suspicious of the enigmatic young man hanging around her charge, the tangled web becomes a deadly game of psychological cat-and-mouse– an atmostpheric mystery-noir that fully captures the mood of Greene’s violent and sexually daring masterpiece.”
Brighton Rock is in theatres August 26, 2011.

Margin Call is an eerie look at what happens when a financial crisis looms and what a company does to protect itself. The film has a great cast that includes Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley, Simon Baker, Mary McDonnell, Demi Moore, and Stanley Tucci. The trailer is pretty good, as it made me get pretty anxious just by watching it.
“A thriller that revolves around the key people at a investment bank over a 24-hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis.”
Margin Call is in theatres October 26, 2011.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil is a redneck spoof horror film that is kind of in line with what Shaun of the Dead was like. I have to say that I think it is pretty clever and I am surprised this had not been done already. The film stars Alan Tudyk, Tyler Labine, and Katrina Bowden.
“TUCKER & DALE VS EVIL is a hilariously gory, good-spirited horror comedy, doing for killer rednecks what Shaun of the Dead did for zombies. Tucker and Dale are two best friends on vacation at their dilapidated mountain house, who are mistaken for murderous backwoods hillbillies by a group of obnoxious, preppy college kids. When one of the students gets separated from her friends, the boys try to lend a hand, but as the misunderstanding grows, so does the body count. TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL has been a hit on the festival circuit, debuting at Sundance, and winning the Midnight Audience Award at SXSW, the Jury Prize for First Feature at Fantasia, the Best Director award at Fantaspoa, and the Best Motion Picture Award at Sitges.”
Tucker and Dale vs Evil is on demand right now and in theatres September 30, 2011.

Father of Invention is the second trailer in this post that has Kevin Spacey in it. This time he plays an inventor who invents a lot of those as seen on TV items. Unfortunately, his last invention ended up maiming some customers so he ended up in jail. Now he is back trying to rebuild his business. The film also stars Heather Graham, Camilla Belle, Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson, and Virginia Madsen.
“Millionaire infomercial guru, Robert Axle (Kevin Spacey) loses everything when one of his inventions has a design flaw that accidentally chops off the fingers of thousands of customers. After serving eight years in prison, a disgraced Axle is released, and ready to redeem his name and rebuild his empire with a new innovation. However, Axle’s ex-wife (Virginia Madsen) has spent all of his money and moved into his house with her new husband (Craig Robinson). Out of desperation, he finds a part-time job as a janitor, and is forced to move in with his estranged daughter (Camilla Belle) and her over-protective roommates. Despite these setbacks he is determined to pitch his newest gadget and rebuild his infomercial empire. But the world has changed in the last decade, and Axle finds himself out of step with current technology, his family, and the self-confidence that made him king of the infomercials in the past. With all his wheels spinning, Axle soon realizes before he can be successful with his new creation, first he must reinvent himself.”
Father of Invention is in theatres October 14, 2011.
A Bird of the Air is a little indie romantic drama that revolves around a little romance that is sparked by parrot. The parrot randomly shows up at a trailer one day and the two main characters go on a search to find its owner. If you did not know this, parrots and macaws live a long time. If you ever get one, plan on putting the bird in your will because chances are that it will outlive you. The film stars Rachel Nichols (in a really bad wig) and Jackson Hurst.
“Lyman (Jackson Hurst) is a loner, working the graveyard shift for the Courtesy Patrol. When a green parrot flies in to his trailer he becomes obsessed with finding its owner, which leads him to Fiona (Rachel Nichols). She has been eyeing Lyman from a distance and decides to help with his parrot search, whether he wants her to or not. The pair set off on a search that doesn’t always lead them where they think they’re going, but gradually leads them to one another.”
A Bird of the Air is in theatres September 23, 2011.
Limelight is a documentary on the NYC club scene in the 1980’s and the owner of many of the popular clubs, Peter Gatien.
“As the owner of legendary hotspots like Limelight, Tunnel, Palladium, and Club USA, Peter Gatien was the undisputed king of the 1980s New York City club scene. The eye-patch-sporting Ontario native built and oversaw a Manhattan empire that counted tens of thousands of patrons per night in its peak years, acting as a conduit for a culture that, for many, defined the image of an era in New York. Then years of legal battles and police pressure spearheaded by Mayor Giuliani’s determined crackdown on nightlife in the mid-’90s led to Gatien’s eventual deportation to Canada, and the shuttering of his glitzy kingdom. Featuring insider interviews with famous players in the club scene as well as key informants in Gatien’s high-profile trial, Billy Corben’s (Cocaine Cowboys) exuberant documentary aims to set the record straight about Gatien’s life as it charts his rise and fall against the transformation of New York, offering a wild ride through a now-closed chapter in the history of the city’s nightlife.”
Limelight is in theatres September 23, 2011.
Main Street tells a hopeful story that many dying towns these days would like to happen to them. The only thing I have heard about this movie is how Colin Firth and Orlando Bloom had to transform their English accents into Southern ones. The film also stars Ellen Burstyn, Patricia Clarkson, and Amber Tamblyn.
“From Horton Foote, Oscar winning screenwriter of To Kill a Mockingbird and Tender Mercies, comes MAIN STREET, a moving ensemble drama starring Oscar winner Colin Firth, Orlando Bloom, Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson, Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn, and Andrew McCarthy. The lives of the residents of a small Southern city are changed forever by the arrival of a stranger with a controversial plan to save their decaying hometown.”
Main Street is available on demand right now and will be in theatres September 9, 2011.
The Darkest Hour is yet another alien movie set in Moscow, Russia. A group of young people are stuck in the city in the aftermath of an alien attack. I will say that the aliens are different in concept from other alien movies. But it seems like every few months there is a new alien movie that everyone gets excited about. This film is the flavor of the moment. It stars Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella, and Rachael Taylor.
“The DARKEST HOUR is the story of five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack. The 3D thriller highlights the classic beauty of Moscow alongside mind-blowing special effects.”
The Darkest Hour is in theatres December 23, 2011.
This is the second trailer for The Three Musketeers. It is a bit longer than the previous one. It looks to be interesting and visually done well. The cast includes Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen (yummy), Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelson, Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz.
“The hot-headed young D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) joins forces with three rogue Musketeers (Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson) in this reboot of Alexandre Dumas’ story. They must stop the evil Richlieu (Christoph Waltz) and face off with Buckingham (Orlando Bloom) and the treacherous Milady (Milla Jovovich). The action adventure is given a state of the art update in 3-D.”
The Three Musketeers is in theatres October 14, 2011.
The Descendants is the upcoming George Clooney film that is not The Ides of March. It involves a family tragedy that quickly gets turned on its head when the husband learns that his ill wife cheated on him. The film also stars Shailene Woodley, Beau Bridges, Robert Forster, Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard, Nick Krause, Amara Miller, Mary Birdsong, Rob Huebel, and Patricia Hastie.
“From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning SIDEWAYS, set in Hawaii, THE DESCENDANTS is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney) an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. The event leads to a rapprochement with his young daughters while Matt wrestles with a decision to sell the family’s land handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries.”
The Descendants is in theatres December 6, 2011.
This is the second trailer for Abduction starring Taylor Lautner. I have to admit that I am interested to see if Lautner can carry a film like this as the star. It is quite odd that the second trailer is much shorter than the first one, but it does give a different look at the film. The film also stars Lily Collins, Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello, Sigourney Weaver, Denzel Whitaker, and Michael Nyqvist.
“Taylor Lautner stars as a young man unwittingly thrust into a deadly world of covert espionage in Lionsgate’s action-thriller, ABDUCTION, directed by John Singleton.”
Abduction is in theatres September 23, 2011.
Martha Marcy May Marlene is a little indie drama that got a lot of buzz at Sundance this year based on the film and the star, Elizabeth Olsen. The cast is rounded out with Christopher Abbott, Brady Corbet, Hugh Dancy, Maria Dizzia, Julia Garner, John Hawkes, Louisa Krause, and Sarah Paulson.
“MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE stars Elizabeth Olsen as Martha, a damaged woman haunted by painful memories and increasing paranoia, who struggles to reassimilate with her family after fleeing a cult.”
Martha Marcy May Marlene is in theatres October 21, 2011.
Jack and Jill is another comedy from Adam Sandler. I am not a fan of Sandler’s comedies, but I do like a couple of the dramas he has been in. In this film, you get double the Sandler as he plays his sister. He always seems to be playing the same character. The film also stars Katie Holmes and Al Pacino.
“Jack and Jill is a comedy focusing on Jack Sadelstein (Adam Sandler), a successful advertising executive in Los Angeles with a beautiful wife and kids, who dreads one event each year: the Thanksgiving visit of his identical twin sister Jill (also Adam Sandler). Jill’s neediness and passive-aggressiveness is maddening to Jack, turning his normally tranquil life upside down. Katie Holmes plays Erin, Jack’s wife.”
Jack and Jill is in theatres November 11, 2011.
Jane’s Journey is a documentary about the world famous Jane Goodall. She is a champion of chimps in the wild and in captivity. I must warn you that parts of this trailer are graphic, as it shows some bush meat footage.
“It would be hard to name anyone who has had more of an impact in the realm of animal research and wildlife conservation than Jane Goodall, whose 45 year study of wild chimpanzees in Africa is legendary. In Jane’s Journey, we travel with her across several continents, from her childhood home in England, to the Gombe National Park in Tanzania where she began her groundbreaking research and where she still returns every year to enjoy the company of the chimpanzees that made her famous. Featuring a wide range of interviews and spectacular footage from her own private collection (including her years in Gombe), Jane’s Journey is an inspiring portrait of the private person behind the world-famous icon.”
Jane’s Journey is in theatres September 16, 2011.
Like Crazy is sweet little romance film that won the Grand Jury awards for Best Picture and Best Actress at Sundance this year. It stars Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones as the two main characters. Jennifer Lawrence (who just starred with Yelchin in The Beaver) and Charlie Bewley (The Twilight Saga) co star.
“A love story is both a physical and emotional tale, one that can be deeply personal and heartbreaking for an audience to experience. Director Drake Doremus’ film Like Crazy beautifully illustrates how your first real love is as thrilling and blissful as it is devastating. When a British college student (Felicity Jones) falls for her American classmate (Anton Yelchin) they embark on a passionate and life-changing journey only to be separated when she violates the terms of her visa. Like Crazy explores how a couple faces the real challenges of being together and of being apart. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Picture at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and of the Special Jury Prize for Best Actress for Felicity Jones, Like Crazy depicts both the hopefulness and the heartbreak of love.”
Like Crazy is in theatres October 28, 2011.
Holy crap, that was a lot of trailers to post. This is what I get for being lazy and not keeping up on posting new trailers.
