‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ Poster Takes After TDKR?

I am not a Trekkie, but I did watch Star Trek: The Next Generation growing up, and always loved the Star Trek movies.  JJ Abrams made a fantastic Star Trek reboot film, and, of course, we now have a second film.  The poster came out today for Star Trek: Into Darkness, and it is very reminiscent of the posters for The Dark Knight Rises, using a scene that frames the token image of the film.  In this case, it is the Star Trek Federation emblem.  Who is that in the poster, though?  Captain Kirk or the new villian?

If you want to get an extended first look at the film, the first nine minutes will be shown in qualifying IMAX screens on December 14th.  So basically if you go see The Hobbit on a good IMAX screen, you will get a treat.

The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Peter Weller.  J.J. Abrams directed the film.

“In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes ‘Star Trek Into Darkness.’ When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”

Star Trek: Into Darkness is in theatres May 17, 2013.
