Tom Cruise’s next sci-fi action film is Oblivion and here is the trailer. While I think the effects and the CGI look great, the story itself keeps reminding me of bits and pieces of other films, like I have seen this all before, just in a different package. The trailer itself is too long and gives away too much of the plot. A minute could have been cut from the trailer and it probably would have been better for it. Sometimes less is more.
Oblivion stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Andrea Riseborough, Zoe Bell, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Olga Kurylenko. Joseph Kosinski directed the film and contributed to the screenplay. I was a fan of Tron: Legacy, so I will gladly see anything else Kosinski does. Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Catching Fire), William Monahan (The Departed), and Karl Gajdusek (created the TV show Last Resort) also contributed to the screenplay.
“Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.”
Oblivion is in theatres April 12, 2013.
