Lost in Previews: After Earth

After Earth posterM. Night Shyamalan is back with another non-twist ending film (or so it seems).  After Earth is a sci-fi, fantasy film set in the future starring Will Smith and son Jaden Smith.  They crash land on earth and everything has evolved to kill humans.  Does this remind anyone of another film called The Happening?  From the trailer, it appears that Will Smith’s character is injured enough that he has to stay in the wreckage while his son goes out to explore.  This film is going to have a lot of CGI in it.  Time will tell (and the first reviews) if this is something we need to see.

This is the thing that annoyed me the most about the trailer/film: OKAPI DO NOT TRAVEL IN HERDS!  If it is one thing that annoys me the most, it is that people do no research on the animals they put in their films.  This was brought to you by your local Lost in Reviews zookeeper.

Other than Will and Jaden Smith, the film also stars Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games), Zoe Kravitz, and Sophie Okonedo.  M. Night Shyamalan directed After Earth with himself, Stephen Gaghan, Michael Soccio, and Gary Whitta all contributing to the screenplay.

“A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.”

After Earth is in theatres June 7, 2013.
