Interview with ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ Director Derek Cianfrance

Director Derek Cianfrance traveled the country promoting his film, The Place Beyond the Pines. At his stop in Dallas in March, I had the chance to interview him about his film and I had a couple of nagging questions about the film to ask him. I also asked him about Dane DeHaan, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. He plays the older Jason in the film. Cianfrance enlightened me about the audition process for DeHaan and then his casting of older A.J. played by Emory Cohen. I love interviews where I get a better idea of the thought process on a film and why it comes off the way it did to me.
