If you made it out to the theatre to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey last December, then you are probably going to be seeing the second of The Hobbit trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug. Smaug is, of course, the dragon that we see at the end of the first film. Along with the returning cast of Martin Freeman and company from the first film, we now have the return of Orlando Bloom as Legolas and Evangeline Lilly (Lost) as a new elf character, Tauriel, who is not in the book. Lee Pace had a brief appearance in the first film as the elf Thranduil, but now seems to be in a lot of this one. His makeup is scarily good, totally transforming his look into something quite sinister.
This trailer is made to be seen in 3D which is evidenced by the floating text. The first trailer of An Unexpected Journey is similar. I love the score yet again. Too bad Paramount Pictures is not in on this because that mountain in the beginning of the trailer is almost exactly like their iconic mountain.
I also added a gallery below of the first official images from the film.
“The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.”
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is in theatres December 13, 2013.
