Watch: Nine Inch Nails debut David Lynch directed “Came Back Haunted” video

While Lynch has been out of the cinematic spotlight for quite some time following his 2006 film Inland Empire, you still can’t go wrong with the director’s impeccable taste for the abstract. Films like Eraserhead, Lost Highway (a film in which Trent Reznor and Lynch previously collaborated on), and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (which followed his already incredible TV show of the same name), established David Lynch as one of the favorite directors. No one does “weird” like Lynch. He does his own thing and doesn’t give a shit what anyone thinks. Which is why any collaboration between Lynch and Reznor is always welcome, in my books.

Riding the coattails of NIN’s return, Trent sourced Lynch to direct the video for the new album Hesitation Marks‘ first single “Came Back Haunted”. The video feels like an instant throwback to not just David Lynch’s older visual elements, but a throwback to NIN’s visual past as well. It almost feels like what you’d get if David Lynch had directed the video for “Head Like A Hole” back in 1989. And for that, I love it.

Heed the warning though, if you’re prone to seizures or are Lil’ Wayne, this video will surely knock you into an uncontrollable fit. The track itself may do that as well, but just because it’s THAT good. Check out the video below:

Hesitation Marks will be released on September 3rd, via Columbia Records
