Mondo! San Diego Comic Con! Posters!

Well here at LostInReviews we love to cover all things film related, be it the latest trailers, movies gossip news and of course movie reviews, but we would be remised if we didn’t cover one of the biggest artistic forces in the realm of film and that is Mondo posters.  If you aren’t familiar with Mondo and their massive contribution to the movie poster world, they are the powerhouse name in one of a kind, collector posters for movies.  A sort of art gallery/movie memorabilia creator that works with some of the best names in the art business, if you love movies and the art of poster design, this is a company you want to get familiar with.

So amongst the fans that buy and collect Mondo posters (yours truly included) have been wondering if Mondo will make an appearance at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con and what sort of treasure chest haul of prints will be making their way there.  The past year they were there saw some amazing exclusives that made collectors envious at not being there to partake in the treasures that Mondo had to offer.  This year though, those without tickets to SDCC will be left wanting as Mondo will be there with some Con exclusives and long awaited prints.

Mondo put out a press release and tease about what they were bringing to the table this year and the posters and artists they have in store for everyone is nothing short of amazing.  What I will talk about here in this post is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what they will be selling at SDCC.

The company has stated that there will be a first ever presale for Mondo posters at SDCC.  The presale posters are only for SDCC badge holders and available to preorder on their site at a random time on Friday, July 12th.  Here is the catch, if you purchase a preorder, you have to, HAVE TO, be there at SDCC with the receipt order and ID in order to get these following posters.  There will be no refunds given for those that do the presale as they are exclusive to SDCC.  So fair warning for those are interested in the posters.  Here are the exclusive presale posters:

dark_tower_struzan
DARK TOWER by Drew Struzan

This is one of the most long-awaited posters for the Stephen King series.  Hinted for a long time that we would see the legendary artist Drew Struzan, this 22 color poster print is sure to be the crown jewel of collectors and will be another instant classic Mondo release.  For those that purchase it on the presale, artist Drew Struzan will be there on Frday July 19th at SDCC to sign this poster.

CONAN by Martin Ansin
Size: 24″ x 36″
Edition: 450 Regular

CONAN by Martin Ansin
Size: 24″ x 36″
Edition: 225 Variant
Price: $75 Variant

Two years ago, Mondo teased and created a huge buzz about a possible Conan print by one Martin Ansin from the handing out of one single sticker.  The sticker ended up fueling the hopes and dreams of Mondo collectors that we would get to see a full fledged poster from Ansin on the Conan property.  Well the wait is over and you get different Conan posters (Regular edition and a limited Variant edition).  For those that get the presale, Martin Ansin will be there at SDCC to sign the poster on Thursday July 18th.

Now for what I consider to be THE prints of SDCC.

SPIRITED AWAY VARIANT
SPIRITED AWAY by Olly Moss

Price: $90
HOWLS MOVING CASTLE VARIANT
HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE by Olly Moss
Size: 20″ x 36″
Edition: 225 Variant Only
Price: $90

Olly Moss himself just blew my mind with these two variant poster of the Studio Ghibli properties.  This will make the second set of Ghibli properties that have gotten the Moss treatment and those with in the Mondo collecting world are going to start salivating here.  Moss’ previous Ghibli releases were of Princess Mononoke and My Neighbor Totoro, which are highly sought after and very valuable for collectors.  Even till this day, the Mononoke and Totoro prints are commanding upwards of $400 to $500 to purchase from sellers and these will make an excellent edition for collectors of Olly Moss work.  SDCC will only be preselling the Variant editions of the print and the Regular editions (English lettering instead of Japanese, with a different coloring) will be made available at a later date after the con.  The lucky people who do get the variant editions at SDCC, will be able to have Olly Moss sign them as well on Saturday July 20th.

For official times for the presale release this Friday and the signing times of the artists at SDCC, follow Mondo on twitter at @MondoNews.

Now for those that aren’t luck enough to get the presale drops for the SDCC exclusives, Mondo has you covered on posters releases that will be available throughout the convention.  Right now we only have a small portion of what they are releasing and will update as we learn more, but here is just a sample of what will be available and I hope you like Pacific Rim.  Mondo has brought 3 artists and 6 total Pacific Rim posters for your viewing pleasure.

Lots of amazing artist to choose from with Mondo staples like Kevin Tong and Vania Zouravliov, but I am excited to see Ash Thorp creating two prints for Mondo.  Thorp has done some notable work with motion graphics in Iron Man 3.

These Pacific Rim prints are available throughout the SDCC convention and there is still a lot more to be revealed.  So follow Mondo at @MondoNews on Twitter for updated info on drop times and new releases.
