SXSW MUSIC: FOSTER THE PEOPLE

Foster the People-8733When I first saw FOSTER THE PEOPLE in 2011 at SXSW, I was blown away! Not only was their set filled with hit after hit, but their performance was high energy and transcendent. This momentum didn’t stop and with the release of their first album Torches Mark Foster became a household name.

When this kind of mega stardom happens you begin to wonder if they can live up to expectations with a second release. I have to admit that when I first heard their fallow up SUPERMODEL I was less than impressed, it just didn’t have that same feeling that made TORCHES special. I dismissed the record and didn’t hear anything more until their performance at SXSW during the Fossil party.

Now seeing the new tracks live I’m happy to admit that I was wrong. Armed with a troop of backing singers FOSTER THE PEOPLE put on one of the better performances of SXSW 2014. The songs had a new flair that I could hear on the album. This could be attributed to Mark’s energy that night, he left nothing to be desired and nearly ripped the roof of the small club. It was like seeing a huge festival show with only 200 people.  It was another SXSW moment that was nothing but amazing.

It was like seeing them in 2011, but on a whole other level, I’ll defiantly give the alum another chance and make sure I see the band live this summer.
