Up and comer Cody Brooks is set to play the BMI ‘Howdy Texas’ showcase at Stubbs tomorrow night starting at 6pm. If you haven’t heard of the young drifter from just outside of Nashville, you soon will. I was able to get a sneak peek at his new EP “Handshake” and was blown away!
Cody is taking his Blue grass roots and combining it with electronic down beats reminding me of a Gypsy version of The Kills, but it’s Cody’s voice that begins to separate from the pack. There is something about that deep blues growl that plays perfectly with the electronic melodies reminiscent of an Atticus Ross score.
If SXSW is still truly about turning unknown talent into rock stars, then Cody only has a few more steps on his journey to go.
