Blu Monday – ‘Peanuts: Emmy Honored Collection’ DVD Review

Peanuts: Emmy Honored Collection

It’s Snoopy and Charlie Brown at their very best with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s (WBHE) release of Peanuts: Emmy Honored Collection, available in stores September 15, 2015. This must-own collection brings together 11 beloved Peanuts specials that have been brilliantly remastered in an all-new 4K Ultra HD transfers to DVD. Each of the featured specials has earned an Emmy Award nomination or won an Emmy Award. Peanuts: Emmy Honored Collection will retail for $26.99 SRP. For the full DVD description, click HERE.

Warner Bros. is certainly excited to release the Peanuts: Emmy Honored Collection on DVD. You can find out later in the review if I was excited after watching it, but first let’s get to the particulars on what you’ll get with this DVD 2 disc set.

All 11 classic Peanuts specials that hail from the 1980’s are really funny and for me it was a bonus to be able to watch these with my 9 year old son and share in some of the memories I had when I was growing up watching the Peanuts Specials. It was made all the better that my son really enjoyed watching the specials and this got him excited to see the new Peanuts movie coming out in November. It also brought back a feeling of nostalgia in me that definitely tweaked my interest in the Peanuts full-length theatrical release.

The DVD is sparse, containing just the 11 specials and nothing else. This was a disappointment as I was expecting at least a few extras, especially with the aforementioned theatrical release coming soon. The picture and sound quality were top-notch and the difference is immediately noticeable.

Beyond the really funny, heart-warming, and well written 11 specials on this DVD set there is really nothing else to grab on to with Peanuts: Emmy Honored Collection. This is unfortunate. At $26.99 is seems a bit pricey for what little you get. I think only the die-hard Peanuts fan, something I admit I am not, would feel this is a must-have addition to their collection. I did really enjoy watching Peanuts: Emmy Honored Collection but, had that meant actually paying around $30.00 with tax, I would have passed on purchasing it. For the casual Peanuts fan, I’m sad to say that I can’t recommend due to the cost and lack of extras.
