Clint Eastwood's Sully is a straightforward account of heroism on trial. At only 96 minutes it is one of Eastwood's most blunt instruments for showcasing an American hero, but that doesn't mean its anything short of being concise and completely engaging. Rather than turning it into an action-packed summer blockbuster, Eastwood opts for subtle, quiet, and... Continue Reading →
Movie Review: Captain Phillips
Tom Hanks has always had a knack for making us immediately identify with his characters. He's that "Every Man" who shows us that the the most ordinary person can do extraordinary things when challenged - whether it's finding one G.I. in war-ravaged Europe, landing a broken space shuttle, or surviving on a deserted island. Yet... Continue Reading →
Lost in Previews: ‘Cloud Atlas’ Trailer 2
This is the second trailer for Cloud Atlas. The first look at the film was an almost six minute trailer that confused just about everyone, including me. This second trailer provides a more succinct look at the film with some new scenes. It is still confusing but the imagery of this film makes me want to... Continue Reading →
Lost in Previews: ‘Cloud Atlas’ Six Minute Trailer
The very long, almost six minutes, international trailer for Cloud Atlas came online today. While the quality is not HD, it gives you a look at what this film is all about . . . if you can figure it out. There are many actors and thus many characters in this film. It seems to... Continue Reading →
Movie Review: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
We just passed the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, overrunning our televisions with programs breaking down the event by the minute or going over all of the conspiracy theories flying around. These shows were run with little controversy surrounding them, due to the fact that they were run as documentaries and remained... Continue Reading →
Lost in Previews: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close Trailers
How have I not seen this first trailer for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close?! The first trailer is amazing and beautifully uses U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name" to accompany it. I got emotional just watching it. I am suprised that I have not seen it attached to any film I have seen in the... Continue Reading →
A Semester in the Life of ‘Larry Crowne’
Larry Crowne is the perfect counterbalance to all the action flicks out this summer. If you've had it up to 'here' with all the loud, 3D explosions and epic battles, Larry Crowne is just the thing to refresh your movie palate. Larry (Tom Hanks) is a divorced middle aged man who dove into retail work... Continue Reading →
Toy Story 3 Trailer
Yesterday, the first full trailer for Toy Story 3 popped up online. I fell asleep shortly afterward, so that's why you are getting it today (or tonight). Let's just say that the trailer brings the laughs big time. It's been a while since I have seen Toy Story 1 or 2, but I do remember... Continue Reading →
Toy Story 3 Trailer and teaser posters
The trailer below is currently attached to the Toy Story and Toy Story 2 3D double feature that is in theaters for one more week. Not a whole lot is known about Toy Story 3 other than Andy going away to college and giving his toys away to a local day care and the tag line of 'No Toy Left Behind'. The trailer doesn't help or reveal much more than that either. It's good to see that Toy Story 3 will keep the wit of previous installments based on the great final line in the trailer.
