Lost in Previews: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

It has been ten years since The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was released in theatres.  Today, the first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was released online.  I am an avid fan of the first trilogy.  The Fellowship of the Ring is on my list of my all-time favorite films.  I recently saw all three films in the extended version in the theatres again.  That was an amazing experience, even though Return of the King was far too long to sit through in a theatre with a raging headache.  The Hobbit is eagerly awaited by me and the rest of the fans.  The film is still in production, but they have been filming a while to have enough footage to put a trailer together for it.  If you want to see the trailer in the theatre, go and see TinTin when it comes out tomorrow (December 21).  Below is the cast for The Hobbit headlined by Martin Freeman as the younger Bilbo Baggins.  A lot of favorites from the LOTR trilogy are returning as well.

The film is directed by Peter Jackson.  The screenplay is by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Phillipa Boyens, and Guillermo del Toro.  It is of course based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien.

“”The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever … Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths ofguile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.”

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is in theatres December 14, 2012.
