Lost in Previews: Immortals Trailers 2 and 3

Immortals is upon us.  The visuals of the film remind just about everyone of 300.  They even share some of the same producers.  If done right, the 3D could be stunning.  I am interested in seeing it just for the mythology it is based on.  The trailers do a very good job of showing what the film is going to be like visually.  I am thinking if you do not like violence, this probably is not your cup of tea.

Immortals is directed by Tarsem Singh and stars our future Superman, Henry Cavill as Theseus, a human who wants to avenge his mother’s murder by King Hyperion, played by Mickey Rourke.  In the background of the story are the Greek gods who have been forbidden to intervene.  The movie also stars John Hurt (Old Zeus), Kellan Lutz (Poseidon), Isabel Lucas (Athena), Luke Evans (Zeus), Corey Sevier (Apollo), Joseph Morgan, Frieda Pinto, Stephen Dorff, Robert Maillet, and Stephen McHattie.

“Visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and producers Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300) and Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter) unleash an epic tale of treachery, vengeance and destiny in Immortals, a stylish and spectacular 3-D adventure. As a power-mad king razes ancient Greece in search of a legendary weapon, a heroic young villager rises up against him in a thrilling quest as timeless as it is powerful. The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his murderous Heraklion army are rampaging across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission. As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named Theseus (Henry Cavill) vows to avenge the death of his mother in one of Hyperion’s raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida Pinto), her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her that he is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final desperate battle for the future of humanity.”

Immortals snagged a great release date, November 11, 2011 or 11/11/11.

  1. I keep hearing people say that Immortals looks a lot like 300 and I get a little upset. To me being a Tarsem fan, It looks like a Tarsem film. It reminds me of a visually darker version of “The Fall”. I know they keep boasting about the films ties to 300 but, I think in doing that were cutting the style of Tarsem a bit short.

It’s just too bad that they are sweeping this film under the rug.
